In the article, "Tainted Water Near Colorado Bases Hints at Wider Safety Concerns", Julie Turkewitz discusses how the well water in Colorado got contaminated by chemicals that has an effect on humans. These chemicals cause low birth weight, cancers, thyroid disease and so on. Some have conquered that this contamination wasn't occurred by manufacturing, but by aqueous fire foam. To help for the meanwhile, while trying to clean the water, they have blocked off the contaminated water areas, and have been getting purified water from other states.
I believe this is a serious environmental issue because it brings dehydration among the people. It even effects the people who have already digested this contaminated water, bringing risks to themselves, and possibly unborn children. It even might bring problems to the environment as well, by possibly effecting the ground water which then effects the plants. With this i conquer that this water pollution mishap is a serious environmental issue. http://www.nytimes.com/2016/07/26/us/tainted-water-near-colorado-bases-hints-at-wider-safety-concerns.html?rref=collection%2Ftimestopic%2FWater%20Pollution&action=click&contentCollection=timestopics®ion=stream&module=stream_unit&version=latest&contentPlacement=7&pgtype=collection&_r=0

The two climate myths, "Ice age predicted in the 70s" and "Ocean acidification isn't serious", have been proven to be wrong. The ice age prediction in the 1970s was proved wrong, when these claims were mainly coming from the public. The public claimed the temperatures to be cooling, yet according to others, the temperatures were actually getting warmer due to to rise in CO2 levels. The other climate myth about the ocean acidification is very much so false, it is claimed to actually be very serious. Ocean acidification kills off the marine animal life by making the water more acidic which makes it hard for marine life such as, coral and shellfish, to form hard shells. This impacts their lifespan, making it shorter, which effects the bigger marine life who consume them starve and so on. Therefore, both these climate myths are considered to be very much so false.
Climate is a very important part in our environment. It is the main part of almost everything in our daily lives. It impacts individual's lives greatly. This is why i believe it to be very important to environmental science. http://www.skepticalscience.com/ice-age-predictions-in-1970s.htm http://www.skepticalscience.com/ocean-acidification-global-warming.htm In the article, "In Siberia, a "Blood River" in a Dead Zone Twice the Size of Rhode Island", Andrew E. Kramer talks about how a river in the far north side of Siberia turns bright red due to what could possibly be industrial waste. After some investigating, people have conquered that a metallurgical plant might be the cause of this actually. The pollution of the water makes it dangerous for not only the people to go near it, but the fish that live in it as well. It could also damage the arctic environment around it as well. The plant lowers its outage of pollution and the result of the water is no different than usual.
I believe this water pollution is a serious environmental issue. Water pollution effects a lot of stuff in our environment. It puts practically most things in danger such as, the animals in the water, the people and the environment. Its leads to a lot of dangers. Therefore, i believe that this a serious environmental issue. http://www.nytimes.com/2016/09/09/world/europe/russia-red-river-siberia-norilsk-nickel.html?_r=0 In the article, "U.S. Judge Halts Fracking Plan for Federal Lands in California", Reuters talks about how a U.S. judge allows oil fracking on central California. The judge states this so that thet can get a "hard look" at the impact of the process. The ruling ended up being setback three years. The final outcome was declared unsure.
I believe that this is an environmental issue because with this process happening, individuals will eventually lose all our natural gas. People aren't using it at a sustainable kind of use. we need to save it. Therefore, i believe that fracking is an environmental issue. http://www.nytimes.com/reuters/2016/09/07/us/07reuters-california-fracking.html In the article, "A coolant That Threatens to Heat Up the Climate", Brent Harris informs the audience on how air conditioners and such contain a chemical that is a big threat to our climate. Hydro-fluorocarbons are known to be a more powerful compound than carbon dioxide. World leaders have been looking for a replacement of this chemical. Soon a treaty was passed and everyone had lowered the amount of HFC's throughout the countries.
I believe that this was a serious issue to our environment. Air pollution is very threatening, it not only makes it a hard task to breathe, but it effects the climate. It could maybe make us closer to global warming. Therefore, i believe that air pollution is a serious environmental issue. http://www.nytimes.com/2016/07/23/opinion/a-coolant-that-threatens-to-heat-up-the-climate.html?rref=collection%2Ftimestopic%2FAir%20Pollution&action=click&contentCollection=science®ion=stream&module=stream_unit&version=latest&contentPlacement=3&pgtype=collection&_r=0 In the article, "Deadly Wildfires on Portuguese Island of Madeira Reach Its Largest City", Raphael Minder informs citizens about the wild fire that happened on a Portuguese Island. Firefighters worked their ultimate best to stop the fire from spreading, and saving the 110,000 citizens of Madeira. This fire destroyed 150 houses and killed 3 people, along with a forestry official. The fire spread across 62,000 acres before it was stopped. Thanks to the emergency financial support, the fire was eventually stopped and the area has now become a tourist site.
I believe this is a important environmental problem because this fire is an example to how dangerous fire can be. Fires easily destroy land, soil, trees, houses, towns, and much more. Some even lose their live's to fires. Fires, especially wildfires are very dangerous and the result is depressing. This is why i believe fires, wildfires are an environmental problem. http://www.nytimes.com/2016/08/12/world/europe/portugal-fires-madeira.html?rref=collection%2Ftimestopic%2FWildfires&action=click&contentCollection=science®ion=stream&module=stream_unit&version=latest&contentPlacement=6&pgtype=collection&_r=0 In the article, "Military Base Near Newburgh Is Made a Superfund Site Over Tainted Water" by Jesse McKinley, He summarizes how a military base's water got polluted by a dangerous chemical in a foam that a fire fighter used.It didn't just pollute the military base, but the whole city's water supply.the chemical that contaminated the water was perfluorooctanesulfornic acid or PFOs for short, which was used mainly for aircraft emergencies seeing as it links to cancer and other medical problems. The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has been working since earlier this year to help clear the water of this dangerous chemical, working very hard to get funds. By early May, the water levels were deemed safe to drink, but people still hold worries for it.
I believe that this issue is important because water pollution is a serious topic seeing as people need water to survive, and if most water in the world is polluted, it's gonna result in some causalities. People can only go three days without drinking water, then they will go dehydration and soon die. The people in Newburg had to go about a half a year, having a hard time getting clean water to drink because of this severe chemical reaching the water supply. This issue should've received more attention when it first came about to help save people's lives. http://www.nytimes.com/2016/08/13/nyregion/military-base-contaminated-water-in-newburgh-ny-state-says.html?_r=0 |
