In the article, "Will the Ax Fall on Nigeria's National Parks?", Natalie Ingle discusses how the Nigeria Cross River National Park has been slowly dying away due to the state having recent crashes in oil, currency, and employment. The park was planning on having a tour for the Cross River gorilla, but due to what is happening within the state has flushed those hopes away. As a solution to this problem a 6 mile long superhighway was built, going right through the national park, and a seaport. The state is still arguing whether they should put the superhighway and seaport in.
I believe this to be a serious environmental issues because of the effects of this superhighway being built right through Nigeria's rain forests. This superhighway would cause the land to be end up being barren within the following years after the creation. It will also endanger a few species throughout the rain forests. This will cause Nigeria to have an increase in their list of problems. The possibility of the land going to barren will making harder on them as well, seeing as a lot of effects come with that situation. Therefore, i believe this plan to fix their problems will cause some serious environmental issues. http://www.nytimes.com/2016/11/04/opinion/will-the-ax-fall-on-nigerias-national-parks.html?rref=collection%2Ftimestopic%2FEndangered%20and%20Extinct%20Species&action=click&contentCollection=science®ion=stream&module=stream_unit&version=latest&contentPlacement=1&pgtype=collection
